Where there is light, there is an image to be made. And if there is no light, make some. Light painting, in varying forms, has been around for quite some time. Yet, in recent years, there have been some photographers making amazing pictures. Dave Black and his Workshop at the Ranch series has been an incredible wealth of information and a great resource. In 2003, I attended a Dave Black workshop at the 2003 Sportsshooter.com Luau. It was very inspiring. Here is a video he made shortly thereafter.

Research what other photographers have done and are doing and practice, practice, practice. Check out the work that some flickr‘s are doing.

Follow the light to http://strobist.blogspot.com/. The Strobist is an excellent resource for using off-camera light. There are tutorials, sample images, videos, discussions, and some great links. The Strobist is managed by David Hobby, a veteran photojournalist from the The Baltimore (Md.) Sun. It is a reliable wealth of information for photographers that want to improve their photography, and strive to excel at using off-camera strobes in their images.
